Sunset during dinner at Castaways

Castaways has been a favorite Rochester dining spot since the 1920’s. It offers a casual dining atmosphere right on the shores of Lake Ontario. Summertime it can be very busy, but when we arrived, on a week day evening, just before sunset, we were quickly seated.

If you sit outside, you will enjoy a spectacular view with a gorgeous sunset. Two tiered lakeside decks are the perfect setting for outdoor dining, in spring and summer.

Their menu offers delicious creations that are sure to tempt all palettes. Local favorites are the chicken wings, Cajun-rubbed Blackened Prime Rib or fresh seafood sampler platters.

I ordered the Castaways Shore Platter:  shrimp, scallops, a crab cake and haddock. Their famous Maryland Crab cakes were made for me by Shane DiMora, the owner. He personally stopped by our table to see if I liked them.

Charlie ordered the baked salmon. Everything we ate was perfectly prepared. As we ate our meal the sky was an ever-changing painting of blue, pink and orange.

We did not really have room for dessert but found a slice of the Peanut Butter Pie irresistible. It was a sweet ending to a lovely evening.
