Finger Lakes Summer

Cure is located in the heart of the Public Market, Rochester NY

Cure for the common cold, cure for what ails you, Cure, the newest addition to the evening Public Market, is all and more, creating a warm and inviting slice of great taste.

Since they are the only thing happening at the Public Market at night, parking is NOT a problem. I noticed their window said “Javas,” and found out that they share the same market space as a daytime coffee house — brilliant.

We had reservations for 8pm on a Wednesday night and it was packed. Since you order small plates, it’s easy to occupy a table for several hours.

We took advantage of this offer on their website: “Wednesday nights you may enjoy your meal at Cure with a bottle of wine from your own collection, at no corkage fee.”

Cure’s menu features the freshest, locally-sourced ingredients and prepared meats — all of which we found excellent, with generous portions for tapas style and very inexpensive.

Liver-best

I am a paté freak, and thought that their liverwurst would have made my father, the consummate lover of nasty meats, positively purr — especially with the homemade mustard.

I was not wowed by the bread, which comes from their neighbor, Flour City Bread, but I’m a serious bread snob. If the bread is not really great, those calories should go to beer.

For local veggies we tried the Firefly Farm leeks with colorful baby potatoes — nice presentation.

Boudin Blanc:  A white sausage made of pork without the blood. Pork liver and heart meat are typically included.

My husband’s favorites was the home made sausage — Boudin Blanc with potato puree, and pickled mushrooms and mustard — which I can not rave enough about. This was a generous meal in itself — tasty, tender, juicy.

Butcher Steak

That did not stop hubby from also ordering  the Butcher Steak, also generous and “thank you” — for once — prepared exactly as ordered.

Also famous for their creative drinks, my husband’s after dinner “Rearden Metal” had a lovely citrus taste, and might be classified as a biological weapon.

Finger Lakes SummerCure’s menu reminds me a bit of Dano’s Heuringer, on Seneca Lake, which also specializes in charcuterie.  Maybe they can obsess over some creative chutneys to go with those awesome prepared meats.

Finger Lakes SummerCURE is open Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, from 5 pm until Late. Cure is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. Cure is located inside the Rochester Public Market next to the Union Street bakery.
